Float your ship in the lake, ride a bicycle or hike on a path that offers panoramic views of the surrounding foothills and valley of the Platte River, camp, ride a horse and even fly a model aircraft-all at Chatfield State Park, located next to the southwest foothills of Denver.
Be wary of visiting in the heat of the summer because the campground doesn’t provide much shade, and temperatures can climb into the solid triple digits. Difficult steep trail. Lost the trail a couple times coming down but there are carins set up. We made it to what we thought was the summit but it was the last false summit and didn't have any energy left to push. Beautiful views. No one else on the trail. Great exercise but the view is ok.No dogs allowed
