Laghi di Fusine (Fusine Lakes) are two glacial lakes located in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, very close to the borders of Austria and Slovenia. The Slovenian town Kranjska Gora is only a 20-min (14 km) drive away, while the Austrian city Villach is only a 35-min (30 km) drive away. Given their proximity to these neighboring countries, the Fusine Lakes are known by their German name, Weissenfelser Seen, and their Slovenian name, Belopeska Jezera. We visited Laghi di Fusine on our Slovenia Road Trip. Instead of traveling from Bovec to Kranjska Gora via Vršič Pass, we decided to go to Kranjska Gora via Italy (SS54) and the Fusine Lakes. This place is so serene and beautiful. The mountain view is stunning. We cycled here from Kranjska Gora as a family. Nice ride out of town with a gentle incline for most of the route, although the last few hundred yards are a bit steeper. It's worth it. The first lake is serene, with a beautiful backdrop of the julienne Alps. It's worth taking the time to visit the superior lake too. It's very pretty with the obligatory cow herd munching on the good pasture and stunning views of the mountains.
