The Ebenalp is the northernmost summit of the Appenzell Alps. The mountain is a popular hiking destination and has been accessible by cable car from Wasserauen since 1955. Ebenalp attracts up to 200,000 visitors each year. There is plenty of parking but it fills up quickly as it gets very busy. There was a farmer who was directing cars to park on the grass near the road & then asking for a small fee. This is OK if you can't get a park further up but don't get caught out. We enjoyed the cable car ride up to the top, the views were great. A return ticket with this cable car cost CHF31 without any discounts or Swiss pass, which is quite expensive (compared to other cable cars I used on my trip). But in honesty, if you spend a bit of time up there, hiking around, it will feel worth it.
