Cissbury Ring is a spectacular hillfort high up on the South Downs and commands panoramic views over the countryside and to the coast. It's well worth taking time to wander around the ramparts. It is in the care of the National Trust and access is free at all times, although car parking is very limited so at busy times it is best to walk to it. Being 600 feet high in the South Downs there are many pleasant walks in the vicinity and one of the most scenic is between here and Chanctonbury Ring. The banks and ditches are still impressive even after nearly 2500 years and the remnants of early flint-mining evident here pre-date its construction. The views from here and nearby footpaths are stunning.
