Lauca National Park is located in Chile's far north, in the Andean range. It encompasses an area of 1,379 km2 of altiplano and mountains, the latter consisting mainly of enormous volcanoes. Las Vicuñas National Reserve is its neighbor to the south. ... with Salar de Surire Natural Monument, form Lauca Biosphere Reserve. It is very high in altitude, so you have to travel in a 2 day tour format (sleeping in Putre, which is the ideal geographic place to aclimate to there being less oxygen. I recommend it to anyone who wants to see one of the world s most beautiful parks (entrance is free) and an experience you will never forget.
