It feels so good to be able to say that I conquered Mailbox Peak, the OLD trail. It is definitely one of the toughest hikes ever. Extremely steep, challenging and mentally draining. Choose your pace and don't give up. The last open-spaced part was the most difficult for me, because there is no shade. Once to the mailbox you have an outstanding 360 view. Well worth it however if you are not an experienced hiker I would suggest trying another trail and working your way up to this one. From the trail head to the mailbox you get a 3900 feet elevation gain with several switch backs. Take a lot of food and enjoy resting at the top, because way down will not be easy. Hiking poles are highly recommended.
