This is a review for the all-day hike and Road to Hana drive. It wasn't really a hike so much as a 4.5-mile walk on uneven ground with some mud (read: wear shoes that can get muddy and wet, but you don't have to scrabble up any rocks or hillsides. It's about the same as hiking by Ithaca Gorges). The hike and drive were beautiful. You got to do this!!! This is a must do in Maui! Request Nick as your guide - if he is available. As a family, we thought we were simply going on a hike to see some waterfalls in Maui. As soon as the van door closed, our educational, inspirational hike started. Nick loves Maui! From this, we learned of Maui and the great appreciation for its incredible beauty. Along the route to the waterfalls, Nick shared his knowledge and love of the area. From the love of the land, sea, animal, fish, and culture we were educated. Once at the start of the hike we were equipped with water, food, napsacks, and snacks and off we went into the rainforest. Along the hike Nick stopped many times to inform us about the foliage, fruits, animals and birds. One friendly cardinal followed our path with his voice. As we approached the falls, I needed some assistance with the waters inwhich Nick's strong hands guided me through some unfamiliar terrain. His strength and knowledge of the area is superb. For this I felt confident and safe. We ate lunch under a waterfall surrounded by moisture and bight green moss. It was gorgeous! On to two more waterfalls, breath taking views, and more hiking and we were done. Finally we saw the bright red cardinal at the end of the hike. What a day! Throughout the whole time spent with Nick he constantly supplied us with information, guidance, and shared his love of Maui. I love Maui too! Through his eyes, I was enlightened. Thank you Hike Maui. When I return, I will definately hike with you again!
