There was a time that Garnet was a thriving city, filled with gold miners and their families, a hundred years ago. In the heart of the Garnet Mountains, work hard to carve out a community. About 1,000 people called Garnet their home somewhere in 1898. Beautiful setting at an altitude of about 8,000 feet. The remains of an old mining settlement before the miners packed up and moved to other mining sites had a short and productive life. Bar / brothel remains, hotel and lodging with a beautiful walk. Information center with friendly, helpful and enthusiastic guides open during the summer. The visit and some beautiful scenery we really enjoyed.
