The Mt. Tamalpais Watershed is one of the most valuable natural resources of Marin as it is our customers ' main source of domestic water. We believe that maintaining the lands in a natural condition is the best way to ensure high water quality, which means limiting people's use to activities that have the least impact on the watershed. Allowed activities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing and picnicking within certain constraints. It is forbidden to camp, swim and boat. The central tasks of our rangers, natural resource specialists, and watershed maintenance staff are to care for nature, manage visitors, and involve the public in watershed stewardship. Their responsibilities include resource protection, fire risk management, visitor assistance, monitoring of plants and animal populations, restoring natural habitats, and maintaining access roads and trails.
