A once in a lifetime experience. This hike is possible. As a solo traveler and someone whose never properly hiked before, I was worried if it'd be too much. However, I had determination and (after 8 hours) I made it. If you're worried about going alone, there are so many people on the track with you. I stayed in a hostel and met another solo traveler to walk with. The changing landscapes were unbelievable. My pro tips: bring plenty of food and water, dress in layers (and have room in your pack to put them in when you get too hot, bring sunshades and chapstick, wear sunscreen, take your time, WEAR BOOTS, and check the Tongariro weather via metservice. It is so, so worth it.
