The Imperial Palace of Tokyo is encompassed by parks and gardens on the crowded roads of the town. The premises surrounding the Emperor's residence are carefully preserved and are one of the capital's top locations for tourists. Although most of the year the indoor grounds are off-limits, visitors are still able to explore the parks and gardens free of charge and without registration. The area is split into three primary parts: East Gardens, Kitanomaru Koen Park and Kokyo Gaien National Garden, all of which are enclosed by a wonderful jogging path for those who want more than a walk.
