Abalone Cove Shoreline Park features two fantastic beaches: Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove as well as, the tidepools, bluff-top viewing areas and trails crisscrossing the area.
There is direct access to a parking lot off Palos Verdes Drive South. Access to Abalone Cove Beach is by a long trail from the parking lot. To access Sacred Cove, visitors must walk along Palos Verdes Drive South to one of two trails between Portuguese and Inspiration Points. Lifeguards are on service at Abalone Cove Beach during summer hours and weekends only. The scenes of the ocean and Catalina Island are spectacular.
Once you get to the cove you can cross and get to the other side of the cove where you can jump in and swim under to the other side if you're daring! The path is pretty narrow and there's cactus lots of rocks. So be careful but it was so worth it at the end.
Dogs are prohibited on the beach; however, on-leash dogs are permitted in the upper picnic area and on designated trails.
