Big Sur is a spectacular destination and Andrew Molera SP, mostly open and undeveloped, offers a lot of what the area is known. Miles of trails wind through meadows, bluffs, beaches, rivers, and hilltops. The park has hiking, camping, horseback riding, bike trails, swimming, surfing, fishing, and other activities. It is noteworthy that there isn't a lot of shade on most of the trails or beach, so be prepared. There's also quite a bit of poison oak so be careful. Nice normally modest waves attract surfers, but no crowds at all. This a a really quiet and picturesque place. There are decent bathrooms and nice picnic tables. Some people park up on Highway 1 and then walk in. I don't begrudge a fee to keep the parks going. $10 per car, per day. Your entrance fee allows you access to all California state parks until sundown.
