The Blue Nile Falls is a waterfall on the Blue Nile river in Ethiopia. It is known as Tis Abay in Amharic, meaning "great smoke". It is situated on the upper course of the river, about 30 km downstream from the town of Bahir Dar and Lake Tana. On arrival, we had to take a small boat across the river and then walk about half an hour to get to the falls themselves. The amount of water coming over the falls is dependent on the season and whether the hydro dam has diverted it. We were there on a public holiday, so it was impressive. Worth walking over the suspension bridge beyond the falls especially if you like heights! souvenirs more expensive at start of trail and bargaining is a must.
