The Zitadelle Renaissance fortress, Spandau Citadel, is just ten minutes ' walk from the old town of Spandau. Today, the old Citadel of the sixteenth century hosts a wealth of cultural events–from medieval festivals and banquets to concerts, plays, and performances. Yesterday's military fortress has become the cultural center of today–with exhibitions, festivals, concerts, puppet theatre, the famous bat cellar, and exhibition, as well as medieval and jousting festivals. In 1989, the Spandau Citadel was first opened to the public. Since then, it has hosted a wide range of events–from theater to international pop music. It's a five to ten-minute walk to the citadel from the nearest U-Bahn station, U Zitadelle on the U7 Line.
