Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina is recognized for its Angel Oak the Southern oak tree which is estimated to be 400-500 years old.
This tree is about 66.5 ft. tall, 28 ft. in circumference, and yields shade that covers 17,200 square feet. The Angel Oak is known to be the oldest tree east of the Mississippi River. Expansion and changes were beginning to intrude on the site of Angel Oak wherein 2012, they planned to build a 500-unit apartment complex that would be 160 yards (150 m) from Angel Oak and were challenged in court by a group called Save the Angel Oak and the Coastal Conservation League; their concerns included the construction's effect on available groundwater and nutrients.
Timings of Park: You can visit the tree from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. The gate to the parking area closes at 5 p.m. The gift shop closes at 4:30 each day.

The thing that stands out is the tree's canopy along with the massive limbs that rest on the ground around the tree. It's the perfect spot for a family photo and it's a perfect place for kids to marvel at nature.

This small park features a tiny gift shop nearby, where you might find artwork, T-shirts, food items and other mementos of your trip to the Angel Oak.
Witnessing history:
The Angel Oak Tree is rumored to be one of the oldest living things in the country. Tree stands in the land which was the part of Abraham Waight's 1717 land grant. The City of Charleston now has possession of the property. The Angel Oak Park is free of cost and the tree should be added to any visit to Charleston, Kiawah or Seabrook Islands.
