Aldeyjarfoss waterfall in Skjálfandafljót river in North-Iceland is one of the most beautiful waterfalls. The falls drop into a large pool in a beautiful fan shape. The canyon itself is interesting with its basalt column walls.
The viewpoint gives great views. If you're headed to Godafoss, the road to Aldeyjarfoss is close by. There are two roads off the Ring Road (1) to this waterfall: 842 and 844, both unpaved. Our GPS wanted us to take 844, but we asked a local and she highly recommended 842.
The road wasn't bad at all, but it turns into an F road (F26) near the end, so we stopped at the sign and hiked up (about 30 - 45 minutes). Even the hike was pretty as there were fields of lupines in full bloom.
