Hike to Fjadrargljufur Canyon

Fjadrargljufur is a magical and stunning canyon not far from Kirkjubæjarklaustur in Iceland's southeast. The Fjadrá River flows through the canyon that is up to 100 m deep and 2 km long. In many places an abundance of soft green moss flourishes adding to this place's peaceful beauty. Here you can find stunning views and tumbling waterfalls.

This beautiful deep canyons with a river running through. The turn to Fjaðrárgljúfur is right off Ring Road 1 so about 20 minutes before you reach Kirkjubæjarklaustur (if you drive counterclockwise on the Ring Road) look for a sign pointing to Holtsvegur Road No. 206. Before you find the parking lot, you will drive for about 3 km (1.86 mi).

While I always say come early come early, this is the only place I think we were actually there too early. Yes there were no one there, but with the sun only partially up, it creates very bright canyon on top and very dark on the bottom. Fine to look at but not ideal for the photo enthusiasts. The only unfortunate thing is that the road was very very rough and it seemed (I cannot vouch for this) there was no other road leading to this attraction. But still 100% definitely worth the visit.
