One of the very few options for backpacking in the Southern part of the Michigan Lower Peninsula. Very convenient location, easy to moderate difficulty, great place to try for beginners or families with kids. Though close to modern conveniences, it does provide a wilderness experience. Camping is permitted in designated campgrounds only. Campfires are not permitted in Pines and Blind Lake campgrounds. The trail is 36 miles long and can be hiked in 3 or 4 days (we haven't yet hiked the whole length, though). There are several places to park your car along the trail so you can choose where to begin your trip.
