If you're in very good shape and have the rest of the day to kill, head past the heath bald/shelter area about 1/4 of a mile and follow the yellow blazes to go to Douglas Falls via the split off trail (this trail is also the split of the Mountains to Sea Trail). It's a rough 8 mile out and back hike - descending a little over 1300 feet going down and ascending the same coming back up, but it's a beautiful one!
