This is a great out - and-back hike of seven miles with decent vertical gain that makes a great hike for training. The Parker Mesa Overlook has several benches with sweeping views of the LA basin and the coastline.
The hike begins with winding single tracks, but quickly joins wide, double-track fire roads with plenty of sunlight. The trail is part of Topanga State Park and links to several other trails. Signs clearly mark the mileage and junctions, making it an easy path to follow. And as an out - and-back route, you can choose to shorten the walk, stop whenever it's best for you, and take your steps back. Benches at the Parker Mesa Overlook make the perfect place for lunch or snack while you soak in the views of the coastline of California and rest your legs for the mostly downhill walk back. The trail is exposed so bring hats, wear sunscreen and bring water.
