This is gorgeous natural attraction that is located in Ancash-Huaraz.This is a big area covered with snow that is melting as a result of global warning. The hike up to Pastoruri was between 1.25 and 1.5 miles in each direction, and it only took us just under 30 minutes to reach the top. The views are gorgeous all the way up to the glacier, and the mountains surrounding you really have a way of making you feel small.
At the top, there is a overlook you can walk up to, and you can also walk down towards the water to get a closer view of the glacier. It was quite cold up there even though we were there in December (the beginning of Peru's summer), so make sure to wear a warm jacket or bring layers, including gloves and a hat.
The altitude is also very high at just over 17,200 feet, so prepare accordingly. The hike isn't too long, but having some coca tea and making sure that you are hydrated are both good precautions to take. There are bathrooms available at the base of the hike that can be used for less than 1 sol, so bring some change just in case. They also sell snacks and drinks at the base as well.
