The National Monument to the Sonoran Desert contains magnificent examples of the unspoilt Sonoran Desert landscape. This National Monument is the most biologically diverse desert in North America, and a significant portion of that diversity is captured by the monument. The plant community's most striking aspect of the monument is the extensive saguaro cactus forest. The monument includes three distinct mountain ranges, the Maricopa, Sand Tank and Table Top Mountains, and the Booth and White Hills, all separated by large valleys. The monument also includes three wilderness areas designated by Congress and many important archeological and historical sites, as well as remains of several important historical trails. A Barry M Goldwater Range permit is required for visits to the Sand Tank Mountains, located south of Interstate 8. The license is free, but the recipient must register online and watch a security video. Licenses are valid for one year, the following year from July 1 to June 30. It is possible to obtain permits by clicking here or by visiting https:/luke.isportsman.net/
