Hiking in the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park
Hiking in the Jigokudani snow monkey park is quite easy and can be done all year round. However the condition of the trail changes according to the weather conditions. In the rainy season, it can become quite muddy and in the winter the snow can also affect the trail. It’s a 1.6km long trail and it will take you around 30 minutes to hike.
The trail is a mix of steep, incline and leveled paths. You will also find some stairs as you will reach the final point of the trail.
If you are visiting here in winter you will need appropriate shoes and clothes to hike. You can either get your own shoes and jacket or at the start of the trail there is a shop which gives rented shoes and jackets. In the winters expect very heavy snowfall and very low temperatures. But it is this season which is the most photogenic time of the year and also the best time to visit this place.
It is during the winters that you will find the monkeys bathing in the hot spring and you can't miss capturing these Japanese macaques enjoying their bath.
