Honokohau Bay is a beautiful little bay north of Honolua Bay. The rocky beach and sea floor are not suitable for easy swimming or snorkeling (although when the water is calm, it can be good). The pounding waves make this a great surfing beach during the winter months, filling up with surfers and locals quickly. Fresh coconut milk, juices and other treats are served in a small shop, making it a good place to stop and explore.
If you're up for an adventurous winter day, the waves create a fun shore break you can surf, boogie board, or try surfing. There's no surf school there. Rentals in town for $ 8/day boogie boards or you can buy at the Ritz Carlton.
