Kharanaq (Kharanagh) is a deserted city with a history over 1000 years. What remains in this ghost town, 70km north of Yazd, is a Qajar-era mosque, a cylindrical 17th-century shaking minaret, and a caravanserai. Almost no people live here anymore, the youngsters have left Kharanagh, and only some older women endure. One of the reasons the city was abandoned was that the supply of water was significantly reduced. The village has decayed since then, and it felt strange to go into a random hole in the ground and find a nearly perfect bath (Haman) with white tiles and bath basins.
