Hike to Alftavatn

Iceland is one of the most magical countries in the world, and so are its hiking opportunities. Although the climate can be unpredicted and most of the time harsh, depending on the season you are visiting this fairytale country, you can join some of the picturesque hiking tours that you could've never imagine. 

One of the best hiking experiences that you can have in this country is the Laugavegur trail. 

First of all, if you are not an experienced hiker, and especially a camper, then book a place in one of the huts now! If you want to experience a multi-day hiking trip in this extraordinary environment, but you are not ready to pitch a tent, then make sure you have a place to stay when the night falls. 

On the other hand, if you want to sleep in your tent, you must choose one of the designated campsites. 

To do the Laugavegur-Alftavatn hiking route you need to be in good physical shape. The best time to visit this area is Between June and early September, having in mind that July and August are the months with most daylight hours. 

The landscapes that surround the trail are awe-inspiring and showing you a world that you only see in movies. Make sure that you bring a camera, and check the weather forecast before you leave Reykjavik. The last thing you want is to get stuck in a tent and not be able to hike because of extremely bad weather. 

Iceland is a country with numerous endemic flora species, so if you want to help to preserve them, only walk the marked trails, and get ready to carry all your trash with you. 

Also, this trail has a couple of river crossings, so make sure you bring your waterproof gear!
