El Río viewpoint, in the north of Lanzarote, is a work of art located at the top of an imposing cliff. Standing at the wide railing and looking northwards, three small islets can be seen - the Chinijo archipelago - separated from Lanzarote by the strait from which the viewpoint takes its name. The biggest of the islets is La Graciosa, which boasts perfect volcanic cones and a melting pot of ochres and beiges. The combination of islets, sea, sky and sheer depth of the cliff transmits amplitude and freedom. You can make a wonderful and short hike near famous Mirador del Rio, which is well known point on Lanzarote, However few people might discover nearby opportunity for hike. If you drive or walk from Mirador del Rio the road LZ202 towards cross with LZ 201, about 100 metres before Finca Corona, do not miss old paved road on your right. Drive or walk the old road, pass small parking place and after 200m reach few stone stepps with viewpoint terrace on the end. Do not climb the cliff down, but Go to the left, very narrow path, which will lead you to the stone cottage. Follow the stone path by the cottage uphill to the edge of cliffs (about 1km) and you will admire wanderfull scenic views to the ocean, Lanzarote cliffs, La Famara beach and La Graciosa island, you may return from the highest cliff or continue another 2km to the nearest village. It is not recomended to go with small children due to dangerous cliffs around the journey. Also watch out the strong wind!
