Monterano is a deserted village located on the top of a tuff hill in the Monterano Natural Park, in the center of Italy not too far from Rome and the lake of Bracciano. It is a ghost town that has become popular due to its beauty and its proximity to Rome and Cinecittà. Although not a difficult hike, some of the hills and stairs might be considered treacherous to the elderly or impaired walking. The ruins are small but picturesque and on a sunny day they make for a great picnic spot. There were a lot of families with small children when we visited. It was a pleasant atmosphere.
