I can clearly name Oeschinen Lake as Switzerland’s best kept secret, and one of the most beautiful places on earth.
A pristine blue lake surrounded by the glacier, the mountains and pine forest. A heavenly experience. Oeschinen Lake is a lake in Bernese Oberland the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland, 4 kilometres east of Kandersteg in the Oeschinen valley.
Getting to the lake is a little tricky, as you have to walk across Kandersteg to wait in a long line for the lift. Walking up is a possibility, though it's fairly steep and difficult in winter but a quick cable car ride from Kandersteg or a 2hr hike gets you to a lovely lagoon style lake set at approx 1500m.
You can slake your thirst and enjoy a light meal on the terrace of one of the bar/restaurants on the lakes edge, or you can hire a rowing boat if you have not had enough exercise already!
This mountain lake is definitely a must see, if you only have limited mobility you can still do the trip as there is an electric shuttle bus than runs from the upper gondola station to the edge of the lake.
