The Old Man of Storr Skye is a pinnacle standing on a steep rocky hill on the East side of the isle of Skye. It is home to the Old Man of Storr walk, one of the most famous on the island but you can also admire it from the road.
The Parking for the Old Man of Storr walk is 15 min North of Portree on A855, after driving past 2 small lochs (Loch Fada and Loch Leathan).
You need a car or a tour bus to get to this interesting geological formation.
But so worth the visit and the scenery on the way is stunning.
For photographers, one of the best spots to shoot the Old Man of Storr is around 2 lochs.
From the parking lot look uphill and you will notice ‘Old Man’ and the high cliffs. Getting to the foot of the ‘Old Man’ will need around 45 minutes.
The first part of the hike used to pass through planted pine woodland, but recently it has been harvested (cut down).
The top section of the hike on the approach to the Old Man (the rock pinnacle) is a lot sharper as the path is in poor condition.
Make sure you look through the Walk SlideShow, as it gives a step by step account of what you will encounter.
