Olšany cemetery is one of the largest of its kind in Prague and one of the biggest in Czech Republic. The Old Jewish Cemetery was established and included an Orthodox section, to replace the Old Jewish Cemetery. On the other side of the graveyard is an even smaller Muslim section. A "Learning Trail" is a historic journey through the tombs. From the graves of the 17th century to a filigree mausoleum near the city center in the north end of the cemetery, visitors can walk. Beyond the picturesque scenery, people visit Olšany to pay their deceased loved ones and some famous figures in Czech history their respect. Here there are a number of actors, writers and painters like Jan Palach, a student who immolated himself in protest of the invasion of Czechoslovakia.
