Polední hora is the mountain top with an observation tower which is located 7 kilometers from Prášily, south of Polní Mountain. It is a natural dominant for the entire border region at an altitude of 1315 metres. The original building was the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic's air defense base. Military equipment lost its importance after the collapse of the Iron Curtain. The restoration of a 37-meter-high tower which has become an observation tower was completed in the summer of 1998. Guests can enjoy amazing views of almost the entire Šumava and Bavarian Forest in favorable weather conditions. Here lies "Europe's Green Roof." And not only this, but also Pošumaví and the Czech Basin can be seen in good visibility, up to a distance of tens of kilometers and more than 180 kilometres. Indoor sitting and snacks are available in the tower.
