North of the city centre, Carlton Gardens surrounds the magnificent Royal Exhibition Building.
The building is one of the oldest surviving exhibition pavilions in the world and was initially constructed for the 1880 Great Exhibition. It later housed the first Commonwealth Parliament in 1901, and in 2004 it was Australia's first building to attain a World Heritage List.
The Royal Exhibition Building's Great Hall continues to be an amazing environment for trade shows, exhibitions, cultural and community events with a meticulously restored interior, extensive galleries and a towering dome. The annual International Flower and Garden Show takes place here.
The building is so large and has such beautiful architecture along the mezzanine level and the grounds are so nice to walk around and just a brief tram ride from the center. The display and place is a must if you like gardens and gardening.
