Located west of Gering, Scotts Bluff National Monument contains 3,003 acres of prairie and bluff habitat. The glorious Bluff rises 800 feet above the North Platte River and on its way to Oregon and California became a landmark and resting place for indigenous Americans, fur traders / trappers and pioneers. Come and enjoy four miles of hiking trails at the National Monuments that also include portions of the original Oregon Trail that allow you to walk the emigrants ' footsteps. Visitors to the Scotts Bluff National Monument can drive to the Bluff Summit and enjoy the amazing views of the North Platte River Valley, Chimney Rock and Laramie Peak (90 miles away).
