The Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is one of the most amazing natural wonders of Iceland. The lagoon is full of icebergs of different sizes and colors that drift under a hanging bride to end in the ocean. There are seals and ducks swimming in the lagoon.
From the top of the high point, you can see the majestic Vatna Glacier (Vatnajökul) the largest in Iceland. For me the best part was driving to the beach on the other side of the road. It is amazing to see huge pieces of ice washed by waves.
The contrast of deep blues of ocean and ice is mesmerizing. The beach is made of volcanic black sand and pieces of ice shine like diamonds over the black contrast.
In May the waves were calm so I was able to sit on the sand and contemplate this unique sight when far away I could see whales swimming.
The hanging bridge by itself is spectacular, as many bridges, you will find driving in Iceland, it is a one-lane bridge, where only one car can cross at a time. There are many tour buses by the lagoon, but surprisingly I did not see them by the beach. Do not miss this unique and spectacular area of Iceland. No other place in the world you will be able to experience so close to you a glacier, and touch icebergs and diamonds on the beach.
