South Beach is a neighborhood in Miami Beach, Florida and it is nicknamed SoBe, American Riviera, and The Sun and Fun Capital of the World.
The beaches are world famous and are decorated with iconic colorful lifeguard stands, which were recently remodeled. Many tourists from Europe visit the beaches and pools, and have summer homes in the area.
Miami Beach started as farmland for coconuts in 1870 and has since grown as a nightlife capital. It is one of the foremost locations for Art Deco in the world. You can learn more about Art Deco at the Art Deco Museum which highlights the style made popular in the 1970s.
The area is east of Miami city and located between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. It has a population just below 40,000, and is host to visitors from all over the world.
South Beach is the first area of Miami Beach to be developed in 1910.
Miami hosts a special event there called Urban Beach Week which is directed toward the “Hip Hop Generation” and attracts more than 300,000 visitors.
In January, the Miami Marathon is held. The inaugural race was in 2003, and it attracts some of the best runners from around the world.
March has other special events that attracts tourists. One is the Miami International Film Festival. It is organized by the Film Society of Miami and Miami Dade College MDC. Miami Fashion Week is also held in March. The first edition was in 1984, and it continues as a showcase of talent. It runs for 10 consecutive days, and awards cash prizes to both emerging and established filmmakers. Miami Fashion week is also held in March.
South Beach is a cultural mecca of south Florida, and it's unique atmosphere attracts people from all over the globe.
