The Serpentine is a 40-acre recreational lake set up at Queen Caroline's behest in 1730 in Hyde Park, London, England. Although the whole body of water is commonly referred to as the Serpentine, the name strictly refers only to the eastern half of the lake.
Every visitor should attempt to hire a pedal boat or a row boat. Best to go for an hour as the cost distinction is very small for half an hour. Great fun, but if you go as a family of four, it's a bit precious. From April to October 31, boating on the Serpentine is available. Times range from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm winter sunset and 8:00 pm summer sunset. If you need more particular times, please ring on the day.
