Most visitors to Iceland at some point, take the Golden Circle, the most popular tourist route in Iceland. Þingvellir is a beautiful site with a wealth of things to do. It's a large park carrying an unbelievable number of things to see and do. It's also a very historic place for the Icelandic people as it was the site of the country's parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries. It's dotted with lakes, falls, hiking trails and offers many stunning views particularly near sunset (a great spot is near the park's visitors center).
Öxarárfoss is one of the spectacles within Þingvellir National Park. You will see much taller, beautiful, magnificent waterfalls on Iceland's Southside, but while in the park, this is one of the things you can see. It is beautiful, and a good place for photos. You can walk to Öxarárfoss from the main parking lot, but if you're tired like me, two other parking lots are located closer to the fall. The waterfall falls in the valley and the amount of tourist here are less than up at the main sights, so there is a chance to enjoy two continental plates quite alone with a nice little waterfall.
