The Tunnel Mountain trail provides hikers with the ability to reach a summit right from the luxury of the Banff townsite. The lower parking lot is located on St. Julien Street, and the upper parking is on Tunnel Mountain Drive. The upper parking is also closed in winter. From the lower parking, the hike is approximately 4.6km (2.8 miles) round trip. The trail is wide, well travelled, and well maintained, however it is very icy in winter. Hikers will gain 300 metres (984 feet) by the time they summit. Tunnel Mountain is a must-do hike in Banff, it offers breathtaking views of the townsite below, Mount Rundle, Spray Valley, and Bow Valley.
