The Vesuvius National Park is a wild and unspoilt area of natural woodland surrounding the volcano. Almost everyone who enters heads up to the final climb of Vesuvius, and as a result the narrow road can become dangerous and congested with traffic. As you approach the final part of the road be aware of parked busses and cars by the side of the road. Undoubtedly the climb to the crater of Vesuvius is a must do activity for the fit and healthy, but you should take time to view the lava field which spewed out of the volcano in 1944. Also take time to take in the breathtaking views you get from such an elevated position over the Bay of Naples.
