What is it that entices people to the sea? Poet John Masefield wrote, “I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied. Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key are both home to the United States ' longest stretch of federally protected seashore. You will find endless opportunities for loneliness and relaxation as well as miles of unhindered views and gulf access. A short hike, bike ride or kayak trip ensures a beach swath without people. To visit GINS beaches nearby, one must cross CR 399 (Bob Sikes Bridge to Pensacola Beach). There is a $1 USD on the bridge. Once on Pensacola beach, if you veer to the left (east) down Via de Luna, in about 6 miles you will enter GINS Santa Rosa Area. This area has no fee to enter. There are several parking lots and bathroom/shower areas for visitors. The beaches are sugar sand white.
